SPORTSBOOK ODDS

The 1000 Guineas takes place on Sunday the fifth of May and with none of the would-be classic heroines remaining amongst the entries having raced more than five times it’s just the kind of race where punters could do with some extra help in deciphering their relative merits. Below news.coral.co.uk provides some guidance for your 1000 Guineas betting courtesy of the 10 year trends.

Each of the last 10 winners had raced twice or more as a two-year-old.

So not: Celtic Filly, Hot Snap.

Nine of the last 10 winning fillies had scored at least twice prior to their classic win.

So not: Agent Allison, Coincidentally, Diaminda, Masarah, Rasmeeya, Sky Lantern.

Nine of the last 10 to triumph had scored at Listed level or higher.

So not: Snow Queen, Zurigha.

Eight of the 10 winners in the last decade had won their previous start.

So not: Melody Of Love, Ollie Olga, Rosdhu Queen, Viztoria

Eight of the last 10 winners were born before the first of April.

So Not: Big Break, Just The Judge.

Seven of the past 10 scorers had previously tasted victory at Newmarket (the other three had yet to run there).

So not: Lovely Pass, Maureen, Roz, Winning Express.

Analysis

The trendy types – What A Name, Magical Dream. NB: Roz

At 5/1 in Coral’s 1000 Guineas betting, What A Name makes plenty of appeal, having won the Group 3 Prix D’Imprudence on her last start and come second to the now 117-rated Olympic Glory in the race before that. French-trained fillies have picked up two wins and two places from seven runners in the past decade and her American breeding is another positive omen for  Michel Delzangles’ filly – USA-bred types have earned four wins and three places from just 28 runners in the same period.

At 33/1 with Coral Magical Dream – trained by last year’s winning handler Aidan O’Brien – is a somewhat darker horse, but she’ll likely be the yard’s first string having beaten Rawaaq on her previous start. The latter beat Snow Queen her only stable-mate in the Guineas last term.

25/1 Roz satisfies the majority of trends, only let down by a second at Newmarket on her last start, however that defeat came at the hands of Certify, now banned for for testing positive for anabloic steroids.
