The Tipping Tim marks your card for Saturday’s action from Kempton

SPORTSBOOK ODDS

Whilst the Grand National meeting is a great spectacle, it isn’t much fun to bet on and it’s wonderful to have some decent racing on the Polytrack at Kempton tomorrow.  Kempton wouldn’t be the place to go on a first date (unless you don’t want a second date) but, despite the place looking like a multi-story car-park, you won’t find a fairer racing surface in Britain.

The nap tomorrow has to be Glen Moss in the seven furlong handicap at 2.05.  This is a very competitive race but everything looks in place for Charlie Hills’ beast and, with first time up potentially the time to catch him, he should be cherry ripe for a massive run.  His course and distance form last March is outstanding and if he doesn’t go close off 89 I must be holding my formbook upside down.

The Conditions race at 2.40 is a messy race so I’ll skip that one and focus instead on the fillies’ listed race at 3.15.  Stirring Ballad is sure to be popular because she beat some good horses last season and the paddock boys said she was fat on her return here a fortnight ago, but most paddock judges couldn’t pick out the racehorse in a field full of polar bears and she’ll be short enough because of the hype.  These fillies’ races are notoriously trappy and I’d rather side with a big priced one, so I’m going to take a chance on Whimsical out-running her mark for the in-form Richard Hannon.  She looked like a straightforward progressive filly last term and, with class act Richard Hughes doing the steering, she should go close provided she sees out the eighth furlong.

For the Trixie I’m going to stick with the Hannon barn and chuck a few quid at the Britannia second Mister Music in the 3.50.  He returns to action three pounds higher but minus his wedding tackle (which I guess makes it about level given your average horse), and this won’t take as much winning as a Royal Ascot handicap.

Good luck with all your bets this weekend!
