Newcastle 9/5 to appease Toon Army by turning over Liverpool at St James’

With civic pride stung to high heaven after an unexpected 3-0 rout to arch rivals Sunderland in their previous St James’ Park outing Alan Pardew will have left his Newcastle players in little doubt as to the need to apply the dock leaf of victory upon their return home. Their desire to make amends can see them prevail against a Liverpool side shorn of leading mischief maker Luis Suarez despite a characteristic raft of injuries – Coral go 9/5 about them bringing a smile back to Toon faces.

Part of what made Sunderland’s first away derby win since the year 2000 so shocking was the strong Magpies home form – five wins and two draws in the previous seven games – that had preceded it.

The goals of Papiss Cisse had been instrumental in that run, with the Senegalese magician notching in five consecutive games and news that he’s expected to return from a rib injury on Saturday is massive fillip for home goal chances. He’s 5/4 to notch at any time and 5/1 to bag first or last goals as he bids to replicate last season’s springtime scoring streak.

Liverpool are missing their own goal-snaffler thanks to the wayward nibblings of Luis Suarez and could find Pardew’s men hard to break down given their hosts have allowed a goal or less in five of their last seven home games.

The Anfield side have struggled to keep up the momentum gained off the back of a sequence of five wins in six between mid-February and the end of March, drawing their last three games. Goalless ties against Reading and West Ham show that it’s far from impossible to cool the attacking jets of Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Newcastle have specialised in late goals for much of their home point-harvesting of late, scoring after the seventieth minute in five of their last six home games and Liverpool are similarly keen to register after the interval with six of their last eight goals arriving after the half time oranges. Both sides can be backed to score in the second half at 7/4 with Coral.
