Bank on goals, goals, goals as mercurial Liverpool meet Aston Villa

Not many teams have done what Aston Villa did to Liverpool at Anfield this season. Home games are where the rewards of the Rogers revolution have been reaped by the bushel with eight wins from their past 12 league games.Liverpool have lost just twice during that sequence keeping no fewer than eight clean sheets.

All that makes the 3-1 victory Christian Benteke’s marauding performance earned his employers in December seem implausible enough, but with Villa having notched just three league wins at that point in the season the commanding win at one of English football’s most atmospheric grounds was downright shocking.

Fast forward a little over three months and claret and blue spirits are far better, with three wins in their last five outings and Christian Benteke once again finds himself amongst the goals with five in his last six games. The Belgian is 6/1 to score first or last with Coral and 7/4 to score any time.

Liverpool have remained inconsistent as the season has progressed, mixing up a fizz-bang victory over Spurs with a tame yielding of the points at Southampton last time out and trying to predict which way they’ll flop each week is taxing stuff. However one constant in their games is a downright decadent goal supply with nine of their last 11 outings posting at least four goals. That their matchup with the Villans yields over 3.5 net-bulgers is 7/4 with Coral whilst over 4.5 goals is 15/4.

Regardless of whether Liverpool turn up in the guise of bloodthirsty monsters as they did when hammering Wigan 4-0 or the pussycats seen at Southampton the likelihood is they that both teams will find the net.

Paul Lambert’s men have both scored and conceded in 12 of their last 15 games, whilst their visitors have seen both sides sheets sullied in seven of their last 10 outings.
