Odds and preview for this weekend’s NFL action

Cleveland Browns claimed their first win of the season in Thursday Night Football, holding on to beat Cincinnati Bengals 35-30.

The Bengals threatened a late comeback, inspired by the number one pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, Joe Burrow, who threw for 316 yards, claiming the first three touchdowns of his professional career.

We’ve got another 15 fixtures to look forward to this weekend featuring defending champions Kansas City Chiefs, as they look to pick up their second win of the season on the road against Los Angeles Charger.

New Orleans Saints take on Las Vegas Raiders in this weekend’s final fixture on Tuesday morning, and ahead of the action, we’ve previewed our pick of week two’s matchups.

Atlanta Falcons @ Dallas Cowboys (Sun 18:00)

Dak Prescott

Mike McCarthy’s first game in charge of the Cowboys wouldn’t have gone the way he’d hoped, with a dominant defensive display from the Rams securing a 20-17 win for the LA-based team.

Cowboys are 4/9 favourites on the Money Line to secure the win, with Atlanta Falcons 9/5 outsiders.

Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan impressed in their opener, throwing for 450 yards but only managing two touchdown passes, with a complete performance from the Seahawks proving too much.

Dallas running back Ezekiel Elliott grabbed both touchdowns in their opening week defeat, and he’s 4/1 to score the opening TD here. Falcons running back Todd Gurley scored his first touchdown for Atlanta after his move in April, and he’s 1/2 to score anytime.

There’s always plenty of points on offer in this matchup, with an average of just over 46 points a game in their last five. We’ve got 7/20 on over 45.5 points in the match.

Carolina Panthers @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Sun 18:00)

Tom Brady showed glimpses of what could be to come in his latest venture, but his debut ultimately ended in defeat against the Saints.

Brady rushed for his first touchdown as a Buccaneer, throwing another, but two interceptions left a stain on his performance, while Rob Gronkowski could only rush for 11 yards on his Tampa debut.

Buccaneers may fare better on home soil, and they’re 1/4 favourites on the Money Line to win here, with Carolina Panthers 3/1 to secure their first win of the campaign.

A late fourth-quarter comeback fell just short against the Raiders, losing 34-30, but star running back Christian McCaffrey picked up where he left off last season, rushing for 97 yards and two TD’s.

McCaffrey is a 6/1 shot to score the opening touchdown of the night, with Tampa’s Mike Evans the 11/2 favourite. There’s 13/10 on Gronkowski scoring his first Bucs TD, with 7/1 on Brady scoring another anytime.

San Francisco 49ers @ New York Jets (Sun 18:00)

Jimmy Garoppolo

After winning their opening nine games of the 2019 season, a fourth-quarter capitulation saw the 49ers lose this year’s opener to Arizona Cardinals, following a similar pattern to that of Super Bowl LIV.

Last season’s runners up are 1/3 on the Money Line for the win, with New York Jets 12/5 to claim their first win of the campaign.

The Jets struggled in last weekend’s opener against Buffalo, seemingly out of the game after the first half where they trailed 21-3. They came back to lose 27-17 in an underwhelming opener.

They’ll be without Le’Veon Bell against the 49ers after a hamstring injury, paving the way for Frank Gore to step in and impress.

49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo did little wrong against the Cardinals, throwing for 259 yards and two touchdowns, but his offensive options seemed limited.

After the Jets’ slow start last week, 49ers are 11/10 to be leading at the half with a 6.5 point spread.

Baltimore Ravens @ Houston Texans (Sun 21:25)

Last year’s MVP Lamar Jackson impressed in the Ravens’ opening night win over Cleveland Browns, throwing for 275 yards and three touchdowns with an 80% completion rate.

The Ravens are 3/10 on the Money Line to win on Sunday night, with Houston Texans 27/10 to recover from an opening night defeat to secure their first win of the season.

Deshaun Watson didn’t have his most impressive night in the Texans jersey against the defending champions, failing to throw for a touchdown despite grabbing 253 yards. He did manage to rush into the end zone himself, with running back David Johnson also scoring a rushing TD.

Both sides are known for the scintillating offense, with 58 points scored between them in their opening fixtures. Can the offenses breach 60 points this weekend? There’s 23/10 on over 60.5 points in the game.

New England Patriots @ Seattle Seahawks (Mon 01:20)

Cam Newton

No Tom Brady? No problem for the Patriots in their opener this season, with Brady’s replacement, former league MVP, Cam Newton impressing.

He’ll face a trickier task this weekend against the Seahawks, with the Patriots underdogs as 17/10 on the Money Line, with Seattle 10/21 to claim their second win.

Newton only threw for 155 yards, and failed to throw a touchdown pass, but his rushing game couldn’t be stopped by the Dolphins defence. He’s 10/1 to score the first touchdown of the game or you can find 6/5 anytime.

Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson had one of the games of his life on opening weekend, throwing 322 yards with an 88% completion rate. He threw four touchdowns too, with Chris Carson grabbing two while D.K Metcalf and Greg Olsen scoring one each.

Think Wilson and the Seahawks can score on a similar scale against the Patriots defence? There’s 7/4 on over 3.5 Seahawks touchdowns in the match.
