Alan Shearer shares his thoughts on Chelsea’s title challenge

Published:

Coral ambassador Alan Shearer sat down with us over the festive period to exclusively share his thoughts on Chelsea’s title challenge and whether it can be sustained into the business end of 2017.

As it stands, Antonio Conte’s brilliant Blues are six points clear of second placed Liverpool, and are on an extraordinary run of 12 consecutive wins.

However, with such great depth to the Premier League and the chasing pack eager to make up ground, the Prem’s all-time leading scorer has his say on whether they’ll come out on top in 2017.

You can listen to Shearer’s thoughts in the video below, but we’ve also picked out the best quotes from his latest interview…

“They’ve been on one hell of a run”

A Premier League winner with Blackburn Rovers, Shearer says: “[Chelsea] They have been the best without doubt, they have been the most consistent, even squad wise they haven’t had to use too many players and they’ve been on one hell of a run which has been so impressive.”

Despite being the league’s leading team, Shearer has warned of the chasing pack that could easily gather pace: “They’ve [Chelsea] been the standout team, there’s no doubt about that, but I think it’s far too early to say. We’ve seen in previous years that teams have given away big leads and I think that anyone of the four to five chasing pack could quite easily go on a run of 10 or 11 wins.”

In a league famous for its unpredictability, Shearer stresses that it is a long season and there’s plenty of football to be played: “Although they are the favourites, and rightly so, I wouldn’t say it is theirs just yet.”
