Alan Shearer: “Salah should win Ballon d’Or if Liverpool triumph”

Mo Salah was named the PFA Player of the Season last weekend and rightly so.
It was 50/50 going into the last few weeks but Salah’s performances in the quarter-final and the first leg of the semi-final in the Champions League justifies the decision.
The form he has been in is just incredible. If Liverpool go on to win this competition, he should be named the World Footballer of the Year.
That award has been dominated by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in recent years so it will be some achievement if he was to take that prize away from them.
Rampaging Reds
From watching Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in action last night, Liverpool will be licking their lips at the prospect of playing either side as they will fancy their chances of tearing up their defences.
Given how dangerous Liverpool’s front three is, you’d have to feel they will get a lot of chances to score regardless of who the opposition will be in the final.
Salah stays?
There is sure to be interest in Mo Salah this summer from the leading European clubs but I will be very surprised if they gave in as easily as they did with Philippe Coutinho.
A lot obviously depends on the player and what he wants to do. Coutinho wanted to leave so they had to get the best deal for him. I expect Salah to be there next season at Liverpool.
He is gunning in on Ian Rush’s club record for the most goals in a season. The problem he may have now is he could be rested for the next couple of league games.
The form he is in, he has the opportunity to smash every record going. You have to admire him as he isn’t even playing as an out-and-out centre forward, which shows how good he is.
