Shearer says: “Beware the wounded animal. Manchester United will be hurt and angry”

Alan Shearer is Coral’s football ambassador, so we sat him down with Nicola McGeady to get his exclusive thoughts on the first of three games this Super Sunday, Watford v Man Utd.
The Red Devils come into this trip to Vicarage Road having lost the Manchester derby and then to Feyenoord in the Europa League, while the hosting Hornets came from two goals down at West Ham United to beat them 4-2 in their last assignment.
Shearer had plenty to say about this Premier League lunchtime kick-off, so have a listen below and watch him tell Nicola his thoughts:
“Manchester United a wounded animal”
Despite Watford’s nickname, Shearer thinks it might be the Hornets that get stung by a Man Utd side that will seek to respond to recent disappointments.
“Beware the wounded animal,” Shearer said of Jose Mourinho’s men. “Manchester United will be hurt. They’ll be angry. They’ll be wanting to get back on track.
“They’ll be coming up against a Watford side who will be full of confidence after their result last week.”
“Watford showed great character to come back into the game and they were helped by some poor defending, but that will do their confidence the world of good and should set them up nicely for that tough game against United.”
“It would be no surprise if Rashford were to start”
When asked if Mourinho needs to make changes, specifically bringing Marcus Rashford into his Premier League XI, Shearer added: “I don’t think it’ll be too long, particularly with his form. He got the winner against Hull and then he got his hat-trick from the [England] Under-21s.”
Shearer feels it was “a big call” from Mourinho to leave Rashford out last weekend, but he has since selected him up front in the loss to Feyenoord.
Also touching on Mourinho making his disappointment over the displays of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Jesse Lingard following the Manchester derby defeat public, Shearer continued: “It would be no surprise at all if Rashford were to start at the weekend.
“I think United can win the game. I think they’ll be desperate to bounce back in the right way to get their campaign up and running again.”
