Alan Shearer expects Man Utd to build on their solid start against Hull City

Coral football ambassador Alan Shearer spoke exclusively to our very own Simon Clare to give his thoughts on Hull City v Man Utd, which is Saturday’s teatime offering from the Premier League.

Shearer says the Tigers have surpassed expectations in their opening league games, but feel a solid Red Devils team containing new arrivals Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimvoic can build on victories of their own…

Phelan putting himself in Tigers frame after “brilliant start”

Hull have made a brilliant start to their Premier League campaign. I don’t think anyone expected them to do that given their off-field distractions.

It’s also a great start for Mike Phelan. Can they keep it up? I don’t think so. I still think at the end of the season they will be in a relegation battle, but having said that you have to give credit where it’s due. They deserve the plaudits they are getting at the moment because of their two wins, and they’ve been two great wins.

It would be hard not to give the job permanently to Phelan. He can’t do much more than he has done. He has prepared his players brilliantly and they have done everything he has asked of them. It would be incredibly harsh if they were to give the job to someone else now after their great start.

Pogba and Ibrahimovic ones to watch after “solid Man Utd start”

Manchester United have also made a solid start to their campaign. They look a big, strong and physical team. I watched Paul Pogba make his debut at Old Trafford. It wasn’t spectacular but he did enough to suggest he will be a success in a Man United shirt.

I am also really interested to see how Ibrahimovic gets on this season and he’s made a very good start. It’s not only great for Manchester but it’s also great for the Premier League that we have both Aguero and Ibrahimovic playing in that city and I am sure they will be both end up there or thereabouts in the race for the Golden Boot come the end of the season.

One player who looks like he is not in the manager’s plans this season in Bastian Schweinsteiger. Mourinho has been very honest with him in that he has made it clear that he needs to find another club if he wants to play first-team football.

It is pretty sad that with his CV he is scraping around the reserves and not even in the first-team dressing room. That is football though, it is all about the manager’s opinion, as we have seen with both Manchester clubs since the new men have taken over.
