Aidan O’Brien Royal Ascot winners
Published:There was a new record set in the training ranks as the tally of Aidan O’Brien Royal Ascot winners reached 85 during the 2023 renewal.
The Ballydoyle maestro arrived at the Berkshire spectacular one behind Sir Michael Stoute but edged ahead after an opening-day double.
River Tiber levelled things up with O’Brien’s 10th victory in the Coventry Stakes and he was in front after Paddington ran out a brilliant winner of the St James’s Palace Stakes.
“To break the record is amazing and there are so many people to thank for it, I couldn’t do it without them,” commented O’Brien.
“And Sir Michael is such a special man, we always looked up to him, always. We’re in a very unique position with these horses.”

O’Brien was then on target with Ribblesdale Stakes winner Warm Heart on Thursday and Jersey Stakes scorer Age Of Kings on Saturday.
Finishing with four winners, O’Brien landed his 12th trainer title and said: “It is a privilege for us, we are in a very privileged position and really appreciate it.
“The team make it all happen for us all. We really appreciate it, it’s great to be a part of it.
“We know how difficult it is – we came here a lot of years with a lot of horses and didn’t have any winners. It’s very, very competitive, fiercely competitive. When you come here and have a winner, it’s such a privilege.”
Giant’s Causeway provided O’Brien with his first elite-level success at this meeting in the 2000 St James’s Palace Stakes and that has been his most prolific race, with Paddington being the ninth victory.
His eight Gold Cup triumphs are headlined by four in a row from Yeats between 2006 and 2009.
