Four worth having from Europe
Tuesday offers football punters an interest, with the qualifying first round of the Champions League scheduled from 5.00pm and Rangers’ trip to Progres in the Europa League. It’s the second-leg, so we have a fair idea of how the fixtures should pan out.

Rangers beat Progres Niedercorn
Rangers were convincing winners in the first leg at Ibrox on Thursday, but they only scored one goal, meaning this tie is up in the air. The chances were there for The Bears to score maybe one or two more, but there was a real pre-season feel about the game, and not a lot looks to have changed from last season despite a host of new signings.
Transfers from Mexico, Colombia and Portugal, and it takes old favourite Kenny Miller to pull them out of a hole. The team will only come on for that game, and although it remains in the balance, we make the Scots capable of going through. Coral have the away day at 1/4, and that does a job.
Linfield beat La Fiorita
Linfield and La Fiorita met less than a week ago, with the Northern Ireland Premier League side, currently managed by former Rangers striker David Healy, grabbing a 1-0 win. That victory got their noses in front, but it’s an uneasy lead, and they will travel to San Marino knowing there’s still much work to do.
Jordan Steward climbed off the bench to score a late winner, rounding goalkeeper Gianluca Vivan on 89 minutes to deliver a late sucker-punch, and delight a near 3,000 strong support. Both sides know the winner will be given a golden handshake, playing Scottish champions Celtic in the next round, so there’s everything to play for. The first leg was tight, but it’s worth noting that Linfield missed a penalty, and controlled the play for large parts, so probably should’ve won by more. They are more than capable of going and finishing the job at Coral’s 4/9.
Trepca 89 beat Vikingur Gota
Kosovo based Trepca 89 were beaten last week, but they did themselves a favour by scoring an away goal, and know an improved effort in front of their own fans will see them push opponents Gota all the way to the wire. Vikingur, current Faroe Islands champions, no less, picked up a 2-1 home win, but they were far from convincing, and we expect them to fail away from home comforts. There isn’t too much between the sides, and we were surprised to see Trepca lose last time, but this isn’t mission impossible, and we’ll take a home win at 1/2.
Hibernians beat FCI Tallinn
Maltese top-flight champions Hibernians won at a canter last week, and are picked to dish out the same treatment at the home of opponents Tallinn, the cream of the crop from Estonia. Hibernians swaggered to a 2-0 win in the first leg, and can go and put this one to bed early, if they want to. It’s difficult to like Tallinn, and although I doubt either side will be playing in the competition proper, Hibernians won’t throw away a two-goal lead. Our traders don’t think the visitors need to win, and they don’t, but they’ll want to. 29/10 is a great way to round things off.
