Five picked to sign-off with a win
The conclusion of the 2016/17 Premier League season goes on Sunday afternoon, with all 10 matches kicking off at 3.00pm. Chelsea celebrate their title win with a home tie vs relegated Sunderland, the Black Cats heading to the Championship at full-time.
The winners and losers may be confirmed, but there’s plenty to keep fans entertained throughout the day – Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal all battling it out for a top-four finish, and the place in next season’s Champions League that accompanies it.
Looking to finish off with a big win, we put forward our top five Sunday picks, which pays a whopping 38/1 when clubbed together in an accumulator. Prices and returns mentioned are correct at the time of writing. Let’s look at our hopefuls…..
Arsenal beat Everton
Arsenal have an outside chance of gate-crashing the top four party. We have previewed the tie in a bit more detail, as well as Liverpool and Man City’s matches, in the football section of this site, but the general feeling is a home win. The Gunners have more to play for, are on their own patch, go as the form side and have won each of their last four. Everton are, of course, capable of causing an upset, but they appear to have run their race, and go in to the day showing two defeats from their last three. The locals need it more, and we support them at 4/11.
Tottenham beat Hull
Spurs will finish second, and are another side with not an awful lot to play for, but they showed in midweek when crushing Leicester 6-1 that they want to go out with a bang. It’s also worth noting that Harry Kane is pushing for the Premier League golden boot, involved in a shoot-out with Lukaku. His team mates will want to see him over the line, and the England striker rattled in four goals on Thursday to strengthen his hand. Spurs are added to the mix at a healthy 1/2.
West Brom beat Swansea
A meeting of two sides who are expected to merely go through the motions, before jetting off on their summer break. It took a big effort from The Swans to beat off Hull City and escape relegation, and I expect that to tell here. It has been an emotional, exhausting couple of weeks, and now safe, the Welsh reps should feel it in their legs. If The Baggies fancy the win, it’s there for them. The away day is bigger than it should be at 14/5, and boosts our returns.
Man Utd beat Crystal Palace
There’s no doubt the upcoming Europa League final with Ajax will dominate the thinking of Man Utd, from the players and management, right through to the fans. This will have a real end of season feel about it, neither group putting their bodies on the line. United are at home however and, despite a weaker starting 11 than normal, those coming in will want to impress. 13/8 on the locals sits nicely in our pile, especially with Palace losing three of their last four.
Leicester beat Bournemouth
It has been another rollercoaster year for Leicester fans. Battling against relegation, an extended stay in the Champions League, changing manager, and then that push up through the rankings to distance themselves from the drop. Win here and they could bank a top-half finish, which would be extraordinary. That 6-1 defeat to Spurs in midweek would’ve fired the players up, and they can be trusted to respond with a winning effort at 10/11.
