3 reasons Tottenham should make Watford prodigy their #1 target

With Tottenham Hotspur serious contenders on domestic and European fronts this season, Mauricio Pochettino is likely to try and boost his squad in January. And the latest reports suggest the club are lining up a swoop for Watford ace Richarlison.

The 20-year-old only joined the Hornets from Brazilian heavyweights Fluminense during the summer, but has already caught the eye in the Premier League.

While Spurs might have to splash the cash to sign him from a Prem rival, the Coral News Team think the Brazilian would be a great buy. Here’s why…

Youngster could fulfil his huge potential with Spurs

While there’s no doubt Marco Silva is achieving impressive feats with Watford, there’s arguably no better club in England for a young talent to develop at than Tottenham.

Not only have they produced the likes of Harry Kane and Harry Winks in recent seasons, but Spurs have also transformed Dele Alli from the hot-headed, inconsistent talent of his MK Dons days, into one of Europe’s hottest talents.

There’s no question Richarlison has the raw materials to be a top-class player. Four goals and three assists in 11 Prem games have been accompanied by a tireless harrying of defenders. But he’s not far from the finished product. In short, he’s exactly the sort of gem Spurs polish to such good effect.

He’d fit their style – and boost the options

As it stands, Tottenham have just two natural wingers in their squad. That means more options on the flanks are needed, especially with the current situation at Wembley.

Spurs’ title hopes last term were largely hampered by the absence of Erik Lamela, who has been absent since October 2016 with a hip injury. While he’s gradually returning to fitness, the seriousness of his problems mean there are concerns over whether he’ll ever be quite the same player.

The other winger on the club’s books is Son Heung-Min. And a pairing between the South Korean and Richarlison would appear to be a good one.

The rangy 25-year-old boasts superb distribution and a knack for being a flat-track bully. As for the Brazilian, he provides electric pace and tricky footwork.

He’s also stepped up in the big games for Watford, setting up Troy Deeney’s crucial goal in the 2-1 defeat of Arsenal. That’s in addition to a couple of outstanding individual displays in the Flamengo-Fluminense derby back in his homeland.

He’s shown he can handle Prem & continental tests

We may be just three months into the campaign, but you’ll struggle to find a fan of any club who’d disagree with the assertion that Richarlison can handle English football.

He’s already shone in tests against a physical West Bromwich Albion side, a classy, attack-minded Arsenal outfit and a rigid, well-organised Southampton defence. So there’s no real risk in Tottenham shelling out the cash to secure his signature.

The Nova Venecia native also has also proved his worth in big continental games, producing a goal and an assist to knock out South American giants Universidad Catolica in the Copa Sudamericana earlier this year.

With the Lilywhites all-but-certain of a spot in the Champions League knockouts, January looks the ideal moment for Pochettino to swoop for the Hornets star.

The current Tottenham crop head to the Emirates this Saturday, with 9/5 on offer for Spurs to beat Arsenal for the second time in succession.
