3 reasons Lucas Moura could shine for Tottenham

Former PSG star adds strengths that Spurs lack

It took plenty of time, but Tottenham Hotspur eventually confirmed the signing of Lucas Moura from Paris Saint-Germain on transfer deadline day.

Tottenham paid £23m for the right-winger and it should prove to be money well spent.

Moura played 229 games for PSG and helped them to win four Ligue 1 titles during his time in France.

Here are three reasons he could be a great signing for Spurs…

Injection of speed

There’s plenty of attacking talent in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad. But there’s a real lack of pace in the regular starting eleven.

Son Heung-Min is fairly quick, while Moussa Sissoko is a great athlete but disappointing on the ball.

Spurs’ constant pressing often forces teams into mistakes, but they can struggle to break down teams that are happy to sit deep.

Moura’s speed and dribbling ability on the right flank would add another dimension to Tottenham’s attacking play.

Pochettino tends to stick with a settled side. He might make a few tweaks here and there to rotate, but the core of the team stays the same.

That’s partly to stick with what works, but it also highlights a lack of options. When the manager needs to change a game, he doesn’t usually have much to work with on the bench.

The likes of Sissoko and Fernando Llorente have had little impact at Tottenham so far. Moura’s arrival adds real quality to the squad, whether he starts or comes on from the bench.

Winning experience

For all the promise at Tottenham, the club’s only silverware in the last 20 years has been two League Cup wins.

Spurs famously lost their heads against Chelsea in the final weeks of the 2015-16 campaign. That 2-2 draw ended their hopes of catching Leicester City and winning the league.
