3 reasons Everton should go all out for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

He could transform their season

Everton will hope that new manager Sam Allardyce can get the club back on track.

The club made an awful start to the season that cost Ronald Koeman his job. They were in the relegation zone in November. And they’ll finish bottom of their Europa League group unless they win their final game.

But things are starting to look up now. The club have moved up to tenth after two successive league wins.

There’s still plenty of work to be done though. The club badly need a striker to replace Romelu Lukaku.

The Toffees have recently been linked with Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who could be just what they need.

He won’t be cheap, but there’s a 5/1 chance that he moves to Goodison Park. Here are three reasons they should make a big push to bring him in…

Goals, goals, goals

Lukaku scored 26 goals in all competitions last season. After him, Everton’s top scorer was Ross Barkley with just six goals.

Wayne Rooney leads the way with eight goals this term, while Niasse has five. Neither of those players look like an ideal solution up front though.

Rooney’s best days are behind him, while Niasse is a willing worker but not top quality. There’s also Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who’s still too young to rely on. And Sandro Ramirez arrived in the summer but has made little impact.

Aubameyang would almost guarantee goals. He’s excelled at the top level during his time at Dortmund. He beat Robert Lewandowski to be the Bundesliga’s top scorer last season (31 goals). The 28-year-old scored a brace against Real Madrid on Wednesday too.

 Much-needed speed

One of Everton’s major problems this season has been a chronic lack of pace. Yannick Bolasie and Seamus Coleman have both been sorely missed. Without them, they don’t have anyone who stretches teams with their speed.

Aubameyang is one of the quickest players around. The Gabon international terrifies defences because they can’t catch him once he’s in behind.

Everton have an abundance of number 10s. Aubameyang’s presence would give them more room to play in, as well as a target for their passing.

Statement of intent

There’s been little for Everton fans to cheer this season. Signing one of the best strikers in Europe would be a major coup and it could take the club to the next level.

Local rivals Liverpool, Chelsea and AC Milan have also been credited with an interest in Aubameyang.

If Everton could clinch a deal, it would be a sign that they’re intent on pushing for a top four place – and possibly even more.
