Brother Tedd the bet in Coral Cup
Philip Hobbs trained gelding Brother Tedd looks cracking value at 25/1 with the sponsors in the ante post betting for the Coral Cup at the 2016 Cheltenham Festival on Wednesday, March 16th.
He showed progressive form throughout last season when scoring three times and, in the last of those successes, Brother Tedd stayed on strongly to land a very competitive 18-runner class 2 contest at Sandown by 3 1/4 lengths off a mark of 135.
It was a performance which suggested the seven-year-old would have even more to offer this season, and that view was confirmed when Brother Tedd overcame a 9lb rise in the weights to make a winning comeback at Kempton.
Kempton success oozed class
After travelling strongly throughout on the heels of the leader, Brother Tedd took up the running on the bridle two from home before quickening clear to put the race to bed.
Despite being far from fluent at the last, the son of Kayf Tara only had to be kept up to his work on the run-in to beat Silviniaco Conti by four lengths.
Brother Tedd was value for more than the winning margin, and it was a performance which oozed class.
Coral Hurdle run represents strong form
After being hit with a further 11lb rise for that success and put up to 155, connections decided to have a crack at the Grade 2 Coral Hurdle at Ascot and Brother Tedd ran a blinder to finish a 2 1/2 length third to the classy Rock On Ruby.
The selection was also far from disgraced last time out when fourth in the valuable Lanzarote Hurdle at Kempton, and has since been dropped 3lb.
Given a chance by the handicapper
Brother Tedd is set to race in the Coral Cup off 150, and that makes him dangerously well-treated on the pick of his form.
It’s also interesting that the race is the sole entry held at the Festival by Brother Tedd, and earlier in the season he was being talked of as a live outsider for the World Hurdle.
Brother Tedd is also a strong travelling sort who has a potent turn of foot, and they are the ideal attributes for an ultra competitive handicap hurdle like the Coral Cup.
