Five plays from the World Cup qualifiers

The latest round of World Cup qualifiers dominates the thinking of football punters this weekend, with Scotland vs England the best of them on Saturday. Coral are betting on the main event, as well as every match on the schedule. Click here to have your say.

Focussing on a busy Friday, we’ve run through the games of note and return with our best accumulator. Five teams to win, which can be put together in a multiple, working out at just over 10/1 if our thinking proves to be on the money. Prices and returns mentioned are correct at the time of publishing.

France beat Sweden

Starting in Group A and France go in on the back of an unbeaten five match record – one draw and four wins – a run good enough for top of the pile, three points ahead of Friday’s opponents who sit in second. The spare in that purple patch was an opening week draw vs Belarus, but Les Bleus dusted themselves off and have looked convincing ever since. They have beaten Holland and, of course, Sweden in that winning streak, downing Janne Andersson’s side 2-1 late last year. We expect more of the same at a useful 7/10.

Switzerland beat Faroe Islands

This one really should be as straight forward as the stats suggest, and the fact our traders have the away win priced at 2/11 makes them a big slice of value. I was expecting to see much shorter and, as a result, make the Swiss bet of the night. Faroe’s are easy to oppose at the best of times, but they now go in against top of Group B, a side with a 100 per cent win record. Faroes have managed just one win so far and show -6 in the goal difference tally.

Bosnia beat Greece

One to help boost up our returns, but Bosnia do look a solid bet to get the desired result. Greece are unbeaten so far – three wins and two draws, but they failed to beat Bosnia when enjoying home advantage back in November, and their disciplinary record makes them difficult to trust. Bosnia are unbeaten in three, hammered Gibraltar 5-0 last time, and look well worth a pop at 8/13.

Bulgaria beat Belarus

Bulgaria travel to Belarus and have been completely written off in the market, with 2/1 the current offer, which is a fantastic price. Belarus are second bottom of Group A and are yet to put a win up on the board – two draws and three defeats. Bulgaria, on the other hand, go in search of a hat-trick, having beaten Belarus and Holland in their last two. The price will catch a few off-guard, and we are more than happy to take a shot.

Belgium beat Estonia

We finish off with the most obvious pick of the night, but this one should do us a solid favour and edge up the returns. Belgium are nailed on according to the pre-match odds, Coral giving 1/6, and I really don’t expect them to slip-up here. Top of the pool, unbeaten so far, four wins and a draw from five, it all makes great reading if you’re a follower of the away win.
