Cheltenham Betting Tips
Henry De Bromhead - HoneySuckle
The headline attraction on day one is undoubtedly Henry de Bromhead’s star mare Honeysuckle, who looks to defend her Champion Hurdle Challenge trophy crown in the feature race, with the runners going to post at 3.30pm. Last year the eight-year-old was the first winner of a fantastic Cheltenham Festival day for leading jockey Rachael Blackmore, who made history by becoming the first female Jockey Cheltenham winner of the week’s leading rider award with six victories.
Supreme Novices Hurdle
The week is set to get off to an enthralling start with what is looking a vintage renewal of the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle. Nicky Henderson looks to have a strong hand with Constitution Hill and Jonbon, but Willie Mullins has won the opener five times in the last 10 years and is set to saddle last year’s Bumper winner Sir Gerhard. Willie Mullins also has a strong hand in the Arkle with Ferny Hollow, although Alan King will be looking to roll back the years for his third win in the race with Edwardstone.
Mares Hurdle
The Closutton handler has also dominated the Mares Hurdle (4.10pm) since its inception, but will be looking to wrestle back the prize having seen it go elsewhere for the past three seasons.
Ultima Handicap Chase Boodles Juvenile Hurdle & National Hunt Chase
There are also two competitive handicaps on the card, the Ultima Handicap Chase and Boodles Juvenile Hurdle, while the National Hunt Chase rounds off the action as the amateurs do battle on some of the best staying novice chasers around. The race was won last year by Galvin who is high up in the Cheltenham betting for the Cheltenham Gold Cup, while Native River is another top-class star horse, who has taken home the trophy in the past.
